Stained Glass is an ancient and enduring medium, harnessing natural light in a unity of art and science. The concept for this album was first inspired by the glasswork at Zionskirche in Berlin, a place where the past and future intersect: destruction and creation, ostentation and modesty, reactionaryism and progressivism.

After moving from Los Angeles to San Francisco in 2013, Steve Blum began participating in songadayforamonth.com sessions. Unwittingly, he began a journey exploring and integrating a lifetime of influences: jazz, classical minimalism, ambient, drone, Ewe rhythms from his former mentor Alfred Ladzekpo, player piano composers Conlon Nancarrow and Aphex Twin, experimentalism, and a passion for technology.

Through sadfam, Steve found a uniquely rich and supportive community during a period he felt detached from his IRL creative connections. As of the release of this record, Steve has 475 songs uploaded to his sadfam profile.

We are celebrating 10 years of this community by launching sadfam records and this, its first release.
